The Red Sox broke open a tied game on Marco Scutaro's eighth-inning grand slam against Fernando Rodney, the fourth Angels pitcher, making the score 7-3.
Pineiro has been a rock of stability in his first season with the Angels, delivering 131 1/3 innings in 20 starts, going 10-7 with a 4.18 ERA. He had a seven-game win streak snapped in New York in his previous outing seven days ago, yielding six earned runs on 11 hits in six innings.
Pineiro complained about his lack of command after that game but gave no indication of any physical issues.
