Pineiro OK after first bullpen session
ANAHEIM -- Angels right-hander Joel Pineiro, who has been on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 22 with a strained left oblique, made a big step on Friday when he threw 30 pitches in his first bullpen session since his injury.
Pineiro reported no problems and said he threw 30 sinkers at about 75 to 80 percent effort with 15 pitches from the windup and 15 from the stretch. His next step is another bullpen session with all of his pitches on either Sunday or Monday before starting a rehab assignment or a simulated game the middle of next week.
"I told you I was going to pitch [this season]," Pineiro said with a laugh. "It's been a lot of work with the trainers and everybody. I've been going nuts, so it's been hard. But it was a good day."
