Angels honor victims of Sept. 11

ANAHEIM -- In a tribute on Thursday at Angel Stadium, the Angels honored the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The pregame ceremony began with an "American Spirit" tribute video set to the words of the song, "God Bless the USA" that blended in clips from prior Angels tributes with footage of some of the nation's most important figures and proudest moments.

It was an emotional start to the ceremony, which next called for a moment of silence before the Orange County Fire Department flag guard marched from first base to second base to unveil the flags of the United States and the state of California.

Mandy Pinto then sang a beautiful rendition of the national anthem while a large American flag was unfurled over the pitchers' mound.

Lastly, Kasia Donohue of Tuesday's Children, a 9/11 support group, threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Angels pitcher John Lackey.

The Angels and Mariners also wore their flag logo caps from Fourth of July weekend and will continue to wear them throughout the rest of their four-game series.
