The Angels shuffled their bullpen Tuesday, placing left-handed reliever Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list and recalling Hisanori Takahashi from Triple-A Salt Lake to take his place. Downs is suffering from a strained left shoulder that he suffered in Friday's loss to the Orioles.
Downs has pitched to a 1-1 record and a 2.57 ERA this season, and he's held opposing hitters to a .235 batting average. Downs worked to a 0.30 ERA in 32 games before the All-Star break, but he's been touched up a bit in the last two weeks and has a 16.20 ERA in six post-break appearances.
Takahashi, another left-hander, was demoted to Triple-A Salt Lake in the wake of the Zack Greinke trade, and he returns on Tuesday to take Downs' spot on the active roster. Takahashi, in his second season with the Angels, has an 0-2 record and a 4.37 ERA in 33 appearances this season.
