Trout was named a Silver Slugger Award winner on Thursday, live on MLB Network. The honor, presented by Louisville Slugger, goes to the best offensive player at each position in the American and National Leagues, based on voting by coaches and managers.
Trout became the first rookie position player to win one since Ichiro Suzuki in 2001. He did so by leading all AL outfielders in batting average (.326), on-base percentage (.399) and OPS (.963) while finishing first in the Majors in stolen bases (49) and runs scored (129). The 21-year-old smacked 30 home runs and 27 doubles while driving in 83 runs.
