Lowe has allowed eight earned runs in 6 1/3 innings this season. He entered in the seventh inning during Friday's 8-1 win, but only recorded one out before walking two batters and being replaced by Sean Burnett.
"His neck was really stiff," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Coming out of last night it [tightened] up."
Field will look to add depth for the Angels -- who are already depleted in the infield with Erick Aybar and Alberto Callaspo on the DL.
"He's got a lot of versatility as far as where he can play in the infield," Scioscia said. "For a little guy, he's got a little bit of pop, but we need that versatility, that coverage more than anything."
Field was hitting .236 this season for Triple-A Salt Lake and owns a .260 average in his brief Major League career. In 2011 and '12, Field appeared in 18 games for the Colorado Rockies.
