Angels acquire INF Grant Green from Oakland

ANAHEIM, CA - The Angels Tuesday announced the club has acquired infielder Grant Green from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for infielder Alberto Callaspo. Today's announcement was made by General Manager Jerry Dipoto.

Green, 25, was the Athletics first round selection (13th overall) in the 2009 amateur draft out of the University of Southern California. The Canyon High School alum (Anaheim, CA) and Fullerton native made his Major League debut for Oakland earlier this month (July 8th at Pittsburgh). In five big league games, he has gone 0-15 at the plate with one RBI. All five of his big league starts have been at second base.

In 87 games this season with triple-A Sacramento, he has batted .325 (123/378) with 27 doubles, 11 home runs and 50 RBI. Among Pacific Coast League leaders, Green currently ranks fifth in doubles and sixth in hits and leads the River Cats in both categories. He has played at least 40 games in the minors at four different defensive positions: shortstop (212 games), second base (93 games), center field (77 games) and left field (49 games).
