Angels release reliever Seanez

|
The Angels released veteran reliever Rudy Seanez on Saturday after the right-hander battled through a rash of injuries and didn't make an appearance with the Major League club this season.

Seanez, who signed a Minor League contract on May 16, was placed on the disabled list on July 9 because of an abdominal strain. It was just the latest injury for the 40-year-old, who also spent 20 days on the DL with a pectoral sprain.

Seanez appeared in nine games with Triple-A Salt Lake, joining the club on May 29 after working out in extended spring training. Seanez allowed four runs on eight hits over nine innings with the Bees.

Seanez last pitched in the Majors in 2008, when he had a 3.53 ERA in 42 appearances with the Phillies. In 17 Major League seasons, Seanez is 41-30 with a 4.10 ERA in 544 games while playing for nine teams.

Seanez is expected to look for a Minor League contract with another team.
