Willits optioned to make room for Hunter

BALTIMORE -- To make room for outfielder Torii Hunter, who is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Sunday, the Angels announced after Saturday's 5-1 win over the Orioles that they optioned outfielder Reggie Willits to the the team's Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City.

Willits has spent the bulk of the 2009 season splitting time between the Angels and within the Minor League system. In 34 games with the Halos this season, Willits hit .206 with 14 hits and six RBIs. The outfielder played in 47 games in Salt Lake City, batting .261 with 30 runs, seven doubles and 18 RBIs.

The move came in response to Hunter's arrival with the Angels. Hunter missed the team's past 31 games due to a strained muscle in his groin.

In 77 games this season, Hunter is hitting .305 with 17 home runs and 65 RBIs.
