Romine goes deep for Halos vs. Rockies

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Troy Tulowitzki hit two of four Colorado homers off right-hander Joe Blanton to lead the Rockies to a 7-2 win over the Angels on Friday at Salt River Fields.

"Guys swung the bats well against Blanton, who's a good pitcher," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "It's a good sign the way we swung the bats."

Tulowitzki crushed the first offering he saw for a solo homer in the first and followed two innings later with a two-run blast for his first two homers of the spring.

"He's one of the best in the game," said Weiss. "You saw the game today. Just one of the best there is."

Rockies catcher Michael McKenry added a solo homer in the third, and second baseman Josh Rutledge hit a two-run shot in the fourth to end Blanton's outing after 3 1/3 innings. The veteran allowed seven runs on eight hits and a walk.

The Angels' first run came in the third inning, on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Collin Cowgill, and Andrew Romine went deep in the seventh.

Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa rebounded from a subpar Cactus League opener by allowing one run on three hits and striking out two over three innings.

Left fielder Tim Wheeler added an RBI double for Colorado.

Up next: Garrett Richards will make his second Cactus League start when the Angels host the D-backs' split squad on Saturday at 12:05 p.m. PT. Richards, the 25-year-old right-hander who secured a spot in the rotation with a 3.72 ERA in 13 starts down the stretch last season, threw three innings of two-hit ball in his spring debut. Opposing Richards will be right-hander Archie Bradley, the No. 1-ranked pitching prospect in baseball by MLB.com.
