Angels observe 9/11 with ceremony

ANAHEIM -- The Angels observed 9/11 on Friday night with ceremonies featuring the unfurling of the American flag in the infield by members of the Orange County Fire Authority.

After a moment of silence was observed and a stirring national anthem was performed by the young vocalist Taylor Longbrake, the honorary first pitch -- a strike to Angels outfielder Reggie Willits -- was delivered by Cpl. Jeremiah W. Workman of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Workman received the Navy Cross citation for extraordinary heroism serving in Iraq on Dec. 23, 2004.

A pregame video display honored public servants in all walks of life in the memory of those who lost lives in the 9/11 tragedies.
