Angels latest entrant for lefty Chapman

Toss another team into the hat that is pursuing Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman.

According to ESPN Los Angeles, the Angels are courting the hard-throwing left-hander. The report notes that the Halos may have an "inside edge."

Chapman is friends with Angels first baseman Kendry Morales, who also defected from Cuba. The two reportedly have spent time together in Miami, and they've recently worked out together.

"Selfishly, we're a nice fit. It's hard to come over here, and Kendry gives him some idea of the pitfalls of the adjustments," Angels scouting director Eddie Bane told ESPN Los Angeles. "It's a fit, but who knows? It depends on the price."

Chapman, a left-handed sensation with a 100-mph fastball, has attracted interest from a number of clubs. Reportedly, the Red Sox have offered $15.5 million and the Marlins have also made an offer, reportedly in the $13 million range.

The A's also have shown interest.

A few weeks ago, Chapman worked out for teams in Houston, and his fastball was clocked at 96 mph.

"We were impressed with his workout," Angels general manager Tony Reagins told ESPN Los Angeles. "Beyond that, there's really not much to report."
