Skaggs on target to return next week

ANAHEIM -- Angels left-hander Tyler Skaggs will make a rehab start for Triple-A Salt Lake in Fresno on Thursday, manager Mike Scioscia said Tuesday.

Skaggs, on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, will throw about 75 to 80 pitches, Scioscia said, with the intent to have him return to the rotation sometime next week. Skaggs threw a simulated game Saturday afternoon.

In place of Skaggs, Matt Shoemaker and Hector Santiago will pitch Friday and Saturday in Kansas City. On Tuesday, the Angels listed Shoemaker as the Friday starter.

Scioscia said Skaggs should be around 90 pitches in his first start back with the Angels.

The 22-year-old has not pitched since June 5 and is 4-4 with a 4.34 ERA this season.
