ANAHEIM -- Saturday night's 19-inning seemingly endless game against the Red Sox not only forced Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker into an emergency relief appearance, but also shook up the upcoming rotation.

Shoemaker was set to start Tuesday's series opener against the Phillies, but he will be pushed back until next Saturday after throwing 102 pitches on Wednesday and 41 in Saturday's 5-4 victory. He earned the win against Boston with three innings of perfect relief.

C.J. Wilson will take Shoemaker's place on Tuesday and Jered Weaver will take the mound on Wednesday. Garrett Richards, meanwhile, will start the series opener in Texas on Friday.

If the Angels keep the same rotation order during their next 17-game stretch -- which includes seven games against division-leading Oakland and finishes with an off-day on Sept. 1 -- they would trot out Hector Santiago, Wilson and Weaver in the three-game set in Oakland from Aug. 22-24.

Manager Mike Scioscia said the club would likely not start a pitcher on short rest in an attempt to match up with an upcoming opponent.
